The story

Portland built early momentum with a 12-0 run in the 1st quarter and led 50-43 at halftime. Emily Engstler paced the Fire with 21 points and 7 rebounds. But Phoenix clawed back through the 2nd half. The Mercury trailed by as many as 11 and still won, outscoring Portland 26-22 in the 4th quarter. Shay Ciezki led Phoenix with 22 points. The game stayed tight: after 3 quarters the Fire led 69-68. An 8-0 Mercury run in the 3rd quarter kept them within reach. Portland is 5th in the West at 17-27. Phoenix is 7th at 16-27.
